How To Clean Painted Kitchen Cabinets

Over time, the paint finish on your kitchen cabinets will become dirty or stained. The best way to clean the paint finish on your kitchen cabinet is to regularly scrub and wash the cabinet faces, removing dirt and build up before it becomes concentrated.

Light Cleaning

Light cleaning includes using water and a mild detergent solution to wipe down the surface of the cabinets. Some spray cleaners may also be used to perform your light cleaning tasks. Be cautioned to read all instructions on the sprayer to make sure that the solution does not cause the paint to smear or peel.

Borax Cleaning

Retail strength Borax is a whitening powder that can be used against stains that are more stubborn and dirt residue that has built up. Mix the borax in a vinegar solution to create a paste that can be applied to the stain. A towel or soft cloth should be used to apply the paste, rubbing it generously into the stain until it lightens up or disappears. Once this takes place, dry the area with a towel.

Light Sanding

If a stain is too difficult to remove, use sandpaper to remove it altogether. Once removed, refinish the area and apply the same color paint or stain that was there previously. Be aware that of you use this cleaning method and you cannot match the color, you may end up having to refinish the entire cabinet.
