A lot of people want to know how to build a built in cabinet to use for an entertainment center and book cases. When you build a built in cabinet you want the cabinets to look well designed and fitted.
When learning how to build a built in cabinet, the first thing you should focus on is the measurement of the wall area where the built in cabinet will be installed. At a scale of 1/4 inch equals one foot, you should draw on a graph paper the dimensions of the wall.
You should also keep in mind the location of any doors, vents, windows or door ways. You want the cabinet to be designed to accommodate your furniture, so you will need to sketch the entire room's dimension so you can properly pre-plan the furniture placement.
You should then use a second piece of graph paper to sketch an elevation of the wall and cabinet. The elevation is a front view of he cabinet. You will need to take down measurements of the length and height of the wall.
You should also take a note of any utility work that may need to be done, and especially any wiring for lighting for the cabinet. After you take your measurements you will need to determine what you're going to use your cabinet for. For example, some people want to learn how to build a built in cabinet for a book case, to keep a television, a bar, or numerous other reasons.
When you design your cabinet you should make sure it has a focal point. Usually the design will look better if it is symmetrical. So you should locate the center location of the cabinet on the graph paper and draw a thin pencil line.
Center the biggest object on this line and draw cabinets below the big object so that they have covered doors for hidden storage. After deciding on the shelves you will use for your cabinet, you should finish the drawing with molding, rise boards, and the trims to give the cabinet more appearance to fit the room.
